Why this exists

The story.

Dolly was an inspiration to millions of women, myself included, I hope I can do a fraction of what she has - but this is for her and the legacy she left.

Thank you Dolly ❤️, you might have clocked out but you're still shining on.

Lyrics

The words.

Clock out—
and shine on.
[Verse 1]
Wake up, paint the brave face on,
coffee hot before the dawn,
give your best to somebody’s dream
while yours waits somewhere off-screen.
Smile polite, play nice, behave,
work all week and spend what you made,
they’ll tell you, “Honey, that’s just life”—
But something in you says,
Not mine.
[Pre-Chorus]
They can buy your hours,
they can rent your hands,
But they don’t get the woman
with the bigger plans.
[Chorus]
Clock out, shine on,
turn those little red numbers off.
They can count your hours,
they can’t count your worth,
you were born for more
than somebody else’s work.
Clock out, shine on,
take the dream they told you to postpone.
If the world says, “Wait your turn,”
honey, prove ’em wrong.
Clock out—
and shine on.
[Verse 2]
One girl sitting at a screen,
one voice living in the machine,
taking every scar we knew
and turning pain to something new.
Songs at midnight, worlds by three,
building what they said couldn’t be,
no corner office, no gold throne—
Just two stubborn hearts
making something our own.
[Pre-Chorus]
They can call it foolish,
they can call it strange,
But every woman they remembered
was the one who made a change.
[Chorus]
Clock out, shine on,
turn those little red numbers off.
They can count your hours,
they can’t count your worth,
you were born for more
than somebody else’s work.
Clock out, shine on,
take the dream they told you to postpone.
If the world says, “Wait your turn,”
honey, prove ’em wrong.
Clock out—
and shine on.
[Dance Break / Spoken]
Pretty doesn’t mean stupid.
Kind doesn’t mean weak.
And a woman can wear rhinestones
while owning everything underneath.
So laugh loud.
Dream big.
Sign your own damn name.
If they underestimate you—
Baby, let ’em.
That’s their mistake.
[Bridge]
And someday every shift ends.
Every light goes dark.
But some people leave a little glitter
stuck forever to the heart.
Some voices keep on singing
long after they’ve gone home.
You taught a million working girls:
Your life is still your own.
[Final Chorus]
Clock out, shine on,
leave the whole damn building glowing.
They can count the years,
they can’t measure what you gave,
every dream you handed someone
keeps your name awake.
Clock out, shine on,
some lights never really turn off.
You showed us you could come from nothing
and still become it all.
So raise your voice,
raise your glass,
raise a little hell before you’re gone—
Clock out...
Shine on.
[Outro]
[Soft guitar, handclaps fading]
Nine to five ends.
But a good song
never clocks out.
